Rock Karsts and Rice Paddies
Ninh Binh is becoming increasingly popular as day and overnight trips from Hanoi and for good reason. Often called the Halong Bay of the Land, this area is scattered with towering limestone karsts. They stand majestically among rice paddies and slow-flowing rivers, creating one of the most beautiful spots in all of Northern Vietnam. Float along the rivers, visiting caves and temples along the way and drinking in the amazing scenery.
We have two options for tours in Ninh Binh or you can customise your own journey.
Option 1 – Bai Dinh Pagoda
Ninh Binh province is approximately 100 Kms from Hanoi and as you approach the karst formations grow denser and denser.
On arrival head to Trang An – Bai Dinh Pagoda, the biggest pagoda in Vietnam with 500 La Han statues and the largest bronze Buddha statue in Vietnam. Explore this beautiful spiritual site and then have lunch in a local restaurant. Enjoy some local special dishes like goat meat with elderberry.
In the afternoon take a boat trip along the river, between mountains and through a collection of incredible caves, including Sang Cave, Toi Cave, Ba Giot Cave and Nau Ruou.
Return to Hanoi for the late afternoon.
Option 2 – Tam Coc
Depart early for Hoa Lu – Tam Coc, enjoying the beautiful scenery of rural Vietnam along the way.
On arrival your guide will take you throughHoa Lu – the Ancient Royal capital of Viet Nam. Visit the 10th century Dinh king temple and Le king temple, learning the heroic histories of this two Kings in the Chinese Wars.
After a local lunch, head to Tam Coc river and step into a bamboo row boat to explore the area. Pass between the karst mountains, past rice paddies and through three enormous caves whose stalactite reach down towards the water. It takes approximately two hours to slowly make your way along the peaceful river, so you should sit back and relax and take it all in.
This is also a perfect place for bike riding and you will have chance to visit the small villages of the area by bicycle before heading back to Hanoi for the evening.
