Ta Chi Nhu Mountain is located in Yen Bai province’s Tram Tau district, Xa Ho village, and it is 2979 meters high, making it the 7th highest mountain in Vietnam.

The H’mong and Thai people live in villages at the foot of the mountain. The mountain is also known by other names, such as Phu Song Sung by the Thai people and Chung Chua Nha by the H’mong people.

The landscape here is still very wild, and the route to get there isn’t easy to drive on. The only way to see the sea of clouds as far as the eye can see is to walk from the foot of the mountain to the top, which is about 8 kilometers. So, a lot of people have selected Ta Chi Nhu to go on fun mountain climbing vacations.

Best time to visit Ta Chi Nhu

Trekking to the summit of Ta Chi Nhu

From September to April of the next year is the greatest period to beat Ta Chi Nhu Mountain. This is the cold season, when clouds form quickly and the air is cool. There aren’t many storms, so it’s a great time to hike.

There is a variety of bloom that grows on the grass bushes and covers the whole mountain range from September to early November. When the flowers bloom, they are purple. The mountain appears incredibly dreamy and purple from a distance. When you approach close and stand amid the blooming bushes, you can also capture stunning pictures.

Everyone calls this flower the Chi Pau flower. This is because a tourist asked a porter from the H’mong ethnic group what the bloom’s name was. The porter said “chi pau” in H’mong, which means “I don’t know.” Because of this mix-up, the name Chi Pau flower is becoming more and more famous among those who like to hike.

From November to April, when the cold air comes, it’s easy to see the sea of clouds. This is also a way to judge the “character” of tourists who love to search clouds.

Trekking to the summit of Ta Chi Nhu

Trekking to the summit of Ta Chi Nhu

There are numerous ways to trek to the summit of Ta Chi Nhu mountain. You can join a tour with a respected tour operator or go by yourself if you have a lot of experience.

This is the timetable for the tour that starts in Hanoi: You can drive your car or motorbike along Thang Long Avenue to Son Tay, then turn toward Trung Ha Bridge and go straight to Nghia Lo town in Yen Bai. The drive along this route is 186 miles and takes around four hours. You can remain in Nghia Lo or head directly to Tram Tau town, which is about 30 km distant.

You will begin your trek from Tram Tau, but the road leading there is quite poor. You could also hire a motorbike taxi to take you to the foot of the mountain, which is safer. Your uncle will start walking when you get to the lead mine.

The mine is at an altitude of 1,200 m, and the resting hut is at an altitude of 2,400 m. The distance is around 6 km, and the route has a lot of steep hills, so you need to start early and be in good shape.

When you get to the hut, you can either hire a spot to sleep or pitch up a tent to stay the night. Get up early the next morning to climb Ta Chi Nhu mountain, which is 2.979m high and around 2.5 km long. Keep in mind that this is the hardest part of the trip to the top of Ta Chi Nhu peak. If you travel between September and November, you’ll see a lot of lovely things, such as the sunrise and flowering Chi Pau flowers.

A pair of shoes with high grip soles will keep you safe when you’re walking long distances. You shouldn’t wear standard running shoes on asphalt because they are slippery. To relieve pressure on your toes, you could also buy shoes that are 1 to 2 sizes bigger than your foot size.

Backpacks should include a chest strap to make them lighter, be waterproof, and offer back support.

The temperature on the mountain will be very cold at night and in the early morning, so bring a windbreaker, thermal shirt, wool hat, and stretchy leggings to stay warm and keep bugs away while you walk long distances.

Even if you’re going on a trip with snacks, you should still bring water and food like energy gel, dry food, cereal bars, ginger tea, or ginger candies to keep your energy up or to stay alive if you get lost. You should also carry some basic medicines, essential oils, and foot patches with you.

The next step is to keep an eye on the weather. Because the area is mountainous, landslides can happen, so tourists should keep an eye on things before they leave. You should talk to the guide and individuals in the area.

Climbing will be hard if it’s sunny, but it won’t be safe if it rains. The first thing to think about when you want to climb Ta Chi Nhu summit is how strong you are. You can improve your endurance by doing things like jogging, walking, climbing stairs, swimming, biking, and doing cardio about a month before you leave.

The mountain has a lot of steep slopes and is 16 km long, so it will be hard to reach the top if you don’t prepare your health and endurance well.
