Like Cat Ba Island, Bai Chay is the favorite island in Quang Ninh with a fine beach and impressive natural landscapes. Nowadays, Bai Chay is zoned out and designed with many multi-entertainment complexes to make people have a great experience.

1. The most suitable time to be in Bai Chay

Many people are curious about its original name: Bai Chay. Many theories have been made but the most popular theory being popular is: during the French period, this place had many trees, wild nature, many fishing boats gathered weeds to sail. However, the fire caught fire and burned the whole coastal area, so folk called it Va Chay or Bai Chay.

Located in Quang Ninh Province, Bai Chay has the same weather and climate as all places in Ha Long Bay. The most suitable time to travel to Bai Chay is from April to September each year. 

2. How to get there?

There are 3 types of vehicles you can choose:

Train: You can depart from Yen Vien, Gia Lam, Hanoi to Ha Long Station and then move to Bai Chay bus station and take a taxi to the tourist destination.

Car: From My Dinh and Giap Bat bus stations, there are buses to Bai Chay Quang Ninh with the fare of 100,000 VND/person/ticket and departure every 5-10 minutes.

Motorbike: If you want to go sightseeing while enjoying the trip, you can choose to ride a motorbike. There are 2 routes: take road 5 to Sai Dong junction, turn to Bac Ninh direction, then follow road 18 through Chi Linh, Hai Duong to Dong Trieu, Uong Bi and stop at Ha Long. Or you can follow the route from Noi Bai Airport to Bac Ninh, through Pha Lai, Chi Linh and then to Dong Trieu, Uong Bi, and Ha Long.

3. Places to visit 

3.1. Beach – of course!

Bai Chay beach in Quang Ninh is an artificial beach with a length of up to 1000m and a width of more than 100m. It has clear blue water, clean and beautiful beaches. This is also the largest beach in Ha Long. Every year, Bai Chay beach in Quang Ninh attracts a lot of tourists. Trees along the beach provide beautiful scenery and fresh air for visitors to relax.

If you go on a tour, you can have time to take part in some activities such as listening to his father’s historical exploits.

Other indispensable outdoor activities are lying on the beach to sunbathe, playing soccer, volleyball on the beach or in the ocean. So great right?

3.2. Bai Chay bridge

Bai Chay Bridge is an impressive construction in Ha Long. The bridge was built to connect Hon Gai with Bai Chay through the mouth of Cua Luc river. The bridge length is 1.106m.

During the day, you have a chance to witness the grandeur of the bridge. But at night, when the lights are on, this place seems to put on a “new shirt” with the fancy and impression. Below the bridge is a walking path for you and your family to relax, enjoy the view and enjoy the cool breeze.

3.3. Night market

Many visitors come there to buy some souvenirs. Bai Chay night market in Quang Ninh sells exquisite handicrafts, seafood and typical dishes of Quang Ninh. The night market is a place few tourists can not miss.

3.4. Bai Chay Old quarter

Bai Chay Old quarter is a space to recreate and simulate the houses and architecture of Hanoi 36 streets or Hoi An. If foreigners have not yet been in Hoi An or Hanoi, this place is so appropriate. With a beautiful design, unique architecture and walking paths, this place is a check-in place chosen by many young people.

3.5. Some new places to explore

“Tay street” is named to distinguish it from Bai Chay Old quarter. This street is built up and designed in Europe style, expert the modern living so attract many young people to check-in and take pictures.

There are a few cafes to have “virtual living” such as Halong Ecolodge – Eco House, Gia (Wind) Coffee, Kafa Coffee…

4. Foods have to try

4.1. Fried squid eggs

Squid eggs are the prominent dish in Bai Chay. The squid eggs here are so fresh and almost cook immediately after fishing. To process this seafood is still simple. After washing underwater, squid eggs are fried with charcoal, put some red chili peppers, fish sausage… and ear immediately 

4.2. Sea Clam 

Sea Clam is also a well-known dish. It is also a symbol of typical food in Bai Chay, Tuan Chau Island and generally in Quang Ninh Province. 

4.3. Sipunculus Nudus (Sa Sung)

It is expensive food but it can conquer the most fastidious diners. 

4.4. Horseshoe crab 

Like Sa Sung, Horseshoe crab is abundant seafood. This seafood is hard to find in other seas in Vietnam and the taste of this seafood in Quang Ninh also has a very unique. 

5. Book tour or backpacking tourism?

This is the question of almost people. Actually, if you are domestic tourists, you can handle the backpacking tourism because you know well about the path to get there and can speak Vietnamese fluently to pay price, book hotels, resorts and train… to get there. But if you are foreigners, we suggest you book a tour. 

Booking tour to Bai Chay doesn’t mean that you have to join in a plan. You can choose some tours. You can choose tours with multiple options to have as the freest time as you can. 

Now, many agencies have tours to Bai Chay with a diversity of travel schedules. 

6. Some things to pay attention 

When going to the beach, remember to bring sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. When boarding the boat, do not bring food and drink, avoid littering and remember to bring your personal belongings.

Owning a “golden” position, Bai Chay Ha Long tourism is always busy and bustling. This is also the place where mainly tourism activities in Ha Long city take place. Unlike the other islands, dining and entertainment activities at Bai Chay often take place until late at night.

Room prices in Bai Chay are usually segmented into 3 main areas. It is the area of Ha Long street, Hai Quan junction area and Vuon Dao area.

Ha Long street area: This is where the concentration of high-class and expensive hotels of 4-5 star class is located.

Vuon Dao area: This is where many cheap homestays are concentrated

Beach Fire. This is also the busiest and most convenient place to move. Staying at Vuon Dao will be near many entertainment places and popular restaurants.
