James Booth, an Australian, came to Hanoi and spent most of his time exploring the cuisine. Coming to Ninh Binh, James goes to pagodas, visits famous landmarks such as Trang An and Bai Dinh. He said two more days were insufficient to explore these sites and it was “straightforward to get lost.”

First night

When James arrived in Hanoi, he went straight to a restaurant 20 minutes from the Old Quarter and ordered grilled chicken feet. For the first time eating this dish, Australian men put a whole chicken leg in their mouth and chew on their bones. His companion, Duncan Lu, a chef in Melbourne, instructed James to eat roasted chicken feet in a sipping style rather than chewing every bite.

Deep-fried fish, for example, was added by James. He observed that it reminded him of fast-food fried chicken balls. After a late-night lunch, James checked into a motel on West Lake Road to recover and prepare for the next day.

James begins his day with a cup of egg coffee at Giang, a cafe well-known among first-time foreign tourists to Hanoi. It was described as “hidden in the old town, occupying a small corner on Nguyen Huu Huan Street.” When visiting Hanoi in the summer, he recommends having iced coffee.

After drinking his morning coffee like a local, James took a cyclo tour of the old town. He believes that traveling by cyclo in the historic city is reasonable because it is difficult for foreigners to operate motorbikes through the busy checkerboard streets.

“I recognized that a lot of streets in Hanoi are related to a traditional line of business. Hang Bac Street, for example, specializes in crafting and selling jewelry; Hang Ma only sells decorations; there is a street specializing in household appliances; and around Dong Xuan market, there is a busy stall selling fruits, fresh vegetables, meat, and fish,” James explained.

He added that many streets in the Old Quarter have shops selling clothes with local designs or imitations of big brands, even receiving sewing suits taken during the day. James said the local guide advised him not to order the vest immediately because of the quality of the fabric; the seam was not good.

James intends to dine on regional delicacies in the afternoon so he chose Bun Cha – the traditional food of Hanoi that Former President Obama and chef Anthony Bourdain dined here once time in 2016″, James suggested.

He said that many visitors know after four years of not increasing prices. James ordered the Obama combo, an $8 special noodle soup with barbeque, vermicelli, seafood noodles, and a glass of beer. He recommends that visitors use less chili and pepper than the locals.

James intended to spend the afternoon drinking coffee on the train station platform. He learned about the location from videos and images shared on social media. Many visitors and I regret just standing outside taking pictures”, James said. On the other hand, James had to leave since the railroad street was closed for safety reasons.

James spent his final night in Hanoi on Ta Hien Street, absorbed in the buzzing environment. He ate pho, sipped some local drinks at a random restaurant in the neighborhood. “Many bars have guests standing in the street; anyone who passes can join the crowd and music with beer cans in hand. If you like the excitement, you can visit the bars here, “James said.

Australian visitors bid farewell to Hanoi and continue their trek to Ninh Binh. He stated he had to attempt to forget about his hangover while sitting for three hours on a bus that passed through a few potholed roads.

“You should stop at Huong Lien restaurant for spicy bun cha (a popular German fashion brand).”In 2016, former President Barack Obama. In the afternoon, male tourists travel to Trang An, well-known among foreign tourists.

On the evening of the last day, James returned to Hanoi, staying at the city’s highest hotel. Here he ordered dinner in a private dining room, watching the panoramic view of Hanoi at night shimmering from above. This picturesque complex is designated by UNESCO as a global cultural and natural heritage site.

James sailed downstream to investigate the beautiful complex’s many caverns and temples on the coast. On the final day, James returned to Hanoi and stayed at the city’s tallest hotel. He ordered dinner in a private dining room while admiring the sparkling panoramic vista of Hanoi at night.
