Linh Ung Pagoda Ngu Hanh Son – The oldest history of “Tam Linh Ung Tu”

Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda is a sacred spiritual tourist place in the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang. The pagoda was built in the east of the majestic and majestic Son Thuy mountain. This is one of the most beautiful mountains in the famous Marble Mountains in Da Nang. With a long-standing ancient architecture, Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda annually attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit.

The way to Linh Ung Pagoda Ngu Hanh Son

Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda, also known as Linh Ung Non Nuoc Pagoda, is located at 98 Huyen Tran Cong Chua, Hoa Hai ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang city. It is located about 10km southeast of the city center.

The route to Linh Ung Non Nuoc Pagoda is very spacious and easy to go, usually along large boulevards. You can refer to and choose one of the following two travel routes:

Route 1: Cross the Dragon Bridge from the city center and enter Vo Van Kiet Street across the Han River. When you meet the first roundabout, turn right to enter Ngo Quyen Street. Continue to go through the roundabout of Tran Thi Ly bridge. Then go straight on a road to get to Ngu Hanh Son.

Route 2: Starting from the city center, you go along Nguyen Van Linh street to Dragon bridge, then turn right onto 2/9 street. Continue going straight through the August Revolution road – Hoa Xuan bridge and then Nguyen Phuoc Lan street, through Trung Luong bridge to Mai Dang Chon street. Then follow Le Van Hien road to Linh Ung pagoda.

What’s so beautiful about Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda in Da Nang?

Linh Ung Pagoda Ngu Hanh Son is the earliest built (in 1825 the 6th King Minh Mang) of the three Linh Ung pagodas in Da Nang today. Because it is located on Son Thuy mountain, the temple is surrounded by trees and mountains, making the space here very fresh and cool.

Although after 3 centuries, after many restorations, the temple still retains its inherent beauty. From the outside looking in, visitors will be attracted by the unique ancient architecture with elaborately carved patterns. Prominent on the campus is a sacred white Buddha statue 10m high built in a sitting position with his back against the mountain and facing the temple. Besides, it is impossible to ignore the architectural work of Xa Loi Tower. This is considered a long-standing symbol of Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda. The tower was built in 1997 with a height of 28m including 7 floors. Inside the tower is a place of worship with 200 stone statues of Buddha, Bodhisattva, and Arhat. With a huge number of stone statues, this place is recognized as the largest stone statue worshiping work in Vietnam.

To visit Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda, you can choose one of two ways to move as follows:

Sightseeing walking: If you love and want to better admire the natural scenery, you should choose this method. You will follow the western path to Tam Thai Pagoda. Then, go down to the East to turn past Linh Ung Pagoda.

Elevator: This is a unique feature of Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda. The 43m-height elevator was built in the middle of majestic mountains with 2 parallel cabins. Each cabin can only accommodate 1 person/turn up and down. One way, it will cost you about 15,000 VND, saving time and suitable for those who do not have enough health to walk.

Linh Ung Pagoda Ba Na Hill – Mount of majestic pagoda

Linh Ung Pagoda Ba Na Hill is one of the three most famous Linh Ung Pagoda in Da Nang. Together with Linh Ung Pagoda Ngu Hanh Son and Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra peninsula create a solid foothold. These three pagodas have a very special meaning to the people of Da Nang both in terms of feng shui and spirituality. Linh Ung Pagoda Ba Na Hill is located in the complex of Ba Na – Suoi Mo eco-tourism area, here visitors can admire the poetic beauty of the tourist destination with an altitude of more than 1500m above sea level. With the view from the top of Ba Na mountain, visitors can see the bustling scene of the whole city of Da Nang as well as the beautiful coastline around the city.

The way to Linh Ung Pagoda Ba Na

Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda belongs to Ba Na – Suoi Mo eco-tourism area, An Loi village, Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city, about 40km from Da Nang city center. Located at the top of Ba Na mountain with an altitude of 1400m above sea level, tourists liken this place to the “Sapa of the Central”. Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda is one of the destinations that tourists should not miss when coming to Da Nang to check-in. Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda is located in Ba Na Hills eco-tourism area. Visitors need to buy a cable car ticket to move to this temple. 

The way to Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda is quite simple:

From Da Nang airport, visitors can follow the road Duy Tan – Nguyen Tri Phuong – Dien Bien Phu – cross Hue Bridge – Ton Duc Thang – turn left Hoang Van Thai. From here, go about 30km along Ba Na – Suoi Mo road, visitors will reach Ba Na Hills tourist area.

The impressive architecture of Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda

Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda was solemnly held by Venerable Thich Thien Nguyen, abbot of Linh Ung Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda, on September 21, 1999. The pagoda was inaugurated in early 2004, but it was not officially completed until 2017.

Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda has the bold ancient architecture of Vietnamese temples with a curved tile roof, four corners shaped like a dragon’s head and the top of the roof has the shape of two dragons adoring the moon. The main hall of the temple is meticulously decorated and respectful. The temple’s worship area is designed according to the symbol of the wheel of the Dharma, and the large courtyard is paved with white stone, showing the respect of the people here to this sacred temple.

A special feature that visitors cannot miss when visiting Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda is the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni – one of the largest Buddha statues in Asia. The Buddha statue is 27m high, 14m in diameter and placed on a 6m high white lotus with a sitting posture in meditation. Right below are 8 meticulously and delicately carved reliefs, each bas-relief marking a historical milestone recreating the life of Shakyamuni Buddha – the founder of Buddhism.

Located at the top of Ba Na mountain, Linh Ung Pagoda in Da Nang brings a harmonious beauty between poetic natural scenery, cool fresh air and classical and sacred architecture of the temple. When coming to Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda, the feeling of fatigue of visitors will quickly disappear, replaced by a feeling of peace and purity that is hard to get.
